How to Measure Blood Sugar

Time: 2 Mins Difficulty: Easy

Safety: Do not share lancing devices. Risk of infection is high.
01. Preparation

Wash hands with warm water (improves blood flow). Insert test strip into meter. Wait for the droplet icon.

02. Sampling

Prick the side of the fingertip. Gently squeeze from the base of the finger to get a round drop.

03. Reading

Touch strip to blood. Wait for beep. Normal Fasting Range: 80-130 mg/dL (Consult your doctor).


Using an Insulin Pen

Time: 3 Mins Difficulty: Medium

Pro Tip: Rotate injection sites (stomach, thigh, arm) to prevent skin lumps.
01. The "Air Shot"

Attach needle. Dial 2 units. Point up. Press button. You MUST see insulin squirt out to ensure flow.

02. Dosing

Turn dial to prescribed dose. Ensure window matches your doctor's order.

03. Injection

Inject at 90°. Press button down. Count to 10 before removing to ensure full dose delivery.


Insulin Pump Basics

Time: 5 Mins Difficulty: Advanced

01. Reservoir Fill

Draw room-temperature insulin into the reservoir. Tap effectively to remove air bubbles. Bubbles can stop insulin delivery!

02. Tubing Prime

Connect reservoir to tubing. Use the "Prime" function on your pump until you see drops at the very end of the connector.

03. Site Insertion

Choose a clean area away from waistbands. Insert the infusion set. Remove the needle backing (if applicable) and connect the tubing.

Reminder: Change your infusion site every 2-3 days to prevent infection and scarring.
